“Let Him Return What Was Stolen”: Sheinbaum Sends Direct Message Against Alejandro Moreno.
President Claudia Sheinbaum once again sparked political debate after speaking out about the corruption accusations against Alejandro Moreno, former governor of Campeche.
During a public statement, the president said that in cases where there is evidence of corruption, the most important thing is to recover the resources allegedly obtained irregularly.
“Let him return what was stolen,” Sheinbaum said when asked about the investigations related to Moreno’s administration in Campeche.

The president’s statements came after the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office did not push forward the removal of immunity of the current federal deputy.
In this scenario, Sheinbaum considered that the matter now directly corresponds to the powers of the Attorney General’s Office.
The head of the federal Executive Branch stated that there are legal alternatives that can be more effective than a prison sentence when it comes to recovering assets linked to alleged acts of corruption.
As she explained, in some cases a person may serve a sentence and later continue enjoying the wealth obtained irregularly.

For that reason, she insisted that the return of resources or properties represents an important measure within processes related to public corruption.
The president also recalled similar cases previously registered in Mexico City involving the so-called real estate cartel.
That case involved former officials from the Benito Juárez borough linked to the National Action Party and accused of allegedly benefiting through irregular real estate operations.
Sheinbaum stated that at that time the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office attempted to negotiate the return of assets obtained illegally.

However, she explained that the proposal did not move forward because the amounts offered were considered insufficient compared to the investigated sums.
The president’s statements come amid a political environment marked by constant confrontations between Morena and opposition leaders.
Alejandro Moreno has been one of the most critical figures against the federal government and on several occasions has rejected the accusations related to his administration as governor of Campeche.
Despite this, the PRI politician continues facing public questioning and accusations regarding alleged irregularities during his state administration.
So far, federal authorities have not confirmed new legal actions related to the case involving the former governor of Campeche.
Meanwhile, Sheinbaum’s statements once again placed the issue on the national political agenda and generated reactions from both supporters and opposition sectors.
The issue also reignited the debate over the legal mechanisms used in Mexico to fight corruption and recover allegedly diverted public resources.
