Political Career of Claudia Sheinbaum

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, of Jewish origin, has been involved in politics from an early age, influenced by her parents, who participated in the 1968 student movement.

She began her political career in the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) in 1989, the same party in which López Obrador was a presidential candidate on two occasions.

During her time in the PRD, Sheinbaum developed an outstanding career, reaching the position of head of Government of Mexico City in 2018, becoming the first woman to hold that position.

Her work in López Obrador’s cabinet in the Federal District and as spokesperson for his first presidential campaign in 2006 strengthened her bond with the current president.

A popular song at her events describes her as “Claudia is next,” highlighting her preparation and ability.

Sheinbaum, known as “the doctor” because of her degree in Energy Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), has emphasized her commitment to continue and deepen the transformation initiated by López Obrador.
