The case shaking Sinaloa: This is what the Finance Ministry says about the freezing of Rubén Rocha Moya’s accounts
The Finance Ministry confirms the preventive freezing of accounts linked to Rubén Rocha Moya and nine other individuals from Sinaloa.
The authority clarifies that the measure seeks to protect the financial system and emphasizes that it does not, in itself, constitute a finding of guilt.
The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit confirms that the Financial Intelligence Unit has applied a preventive freeze to accounts associated with Rubén Rocha Moya and nine other current or former officials from Sinaloa.
The decision places the case at the center of the national agenda and opens a new phase of political and financial scrutiny of the former governor’s associates.
The Finance Ministry explains that the freezing is activated based on urgent bank reports identified as LPB 24 Horas (24-Hour Bank Reports).
Based on these alerts, the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) adds profiles to the List of Blocked Persons as a preventative administrative action aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the Mexican financial system.
The agency specifies that the reports arise after public statements made by U.S. authorities.
Due to the correspondent banking relationship between Mexican and U.S. banks, financial institutions issue alerts about clients classified as Politically Exposed Persons and activate compliance mechanisms that result in precautionary measures.
Claudia Sheinbaum and her Strong Defense of Mexico’s Sovereignty
The financial authority emphasizes a key point: the account freeze is not equivalent to a sentence, nor does it establish criminal or administrative liability.
It states that this is a preventative measure that can be challenged through the established legal channels and is part of a technical procedure while the analysis of information and documentation related to the case continues.
Hours earlier, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed in her morning press conference that the accounts of Rubén Rocha Moya and nine other individuals had been preventatively frozen.
Her explanation aims to limit the scope of the measure and prevent it from being interpreted as a direct investigation launched by the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) against those named.

The mayor maintains that the procedure is based on automatic mechanisms activated when there are arrest warrants or legal proceedings in the United States against individuals with political exposure.
Under this logic, Mexican banks react due to their operational ties with institutions in the neighboring country, and the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) intervenes preventively within this compliance framework.
Sheinbaum also denies that there is, for now, a specific UIF investigation against Rocha Moya stemming solely from this account freeze.
The mayor presents the measure as a technical response from the financial system and not as a discretionary decision made by the federal government.
