The first meeting between President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Claudia Sheinbaum marks the start of the government transition.

A few days after the National Electoral Institute (INE) declared Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo the winner of the presidential election, President López Obrador received the member of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) at the National Palace.

At 5:00 PM, Sheinbaum Pardo held a press conference where she discussed her meeting with López Obrador, highlighting the historic outcome for the Fourth Transformation in the recent elections and their mutual recognition of each other’s efforts.

During her speech, Sheinbaum mentioned that she will announce the members of her cabinet next week, which will formally begin the transition between both administrations.

Important Announcements

Sheinbaum also noted that two new social programs will be integrated into the reform package: one for women aged 60 to 64 and another offering universal scholarships for young people in public education.

Additionally, she emphasized that the reforms presented by the current administration in February will be approved in the Union Congress during the transition period, focusing on three fundamental axes.

One of the priority issues is the reform of the ISSSTE Law, a long-standing demand from teachers.

Sheinbaum stressed that there will be no reelection in the Executive Branch and underscored the importance of approving a reform of the Judiciary, which will be subjected to a popular consultation and analysis by experts.
