Unexpectedly, U.S. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries called a virtual meeting with top party members to discuss concerns about Biden’s re-election bid.

According to sources from the New York Times and the news portal Axios, no official statements are expected to be issued after the meeting.
Among the congressmen who asked Biden to reconsider his candidacy are Lloyd Doggett (Texas), Raúl Grijalva (Arizona), Seth Moulton (Massachusetts), Mike Quigley (Illinois) and Angie Craig (Minnesota).
The latter called for an “open, fair and transparent” process to elect a new candidate at the party’s next national convention in August in Chicago.

Virginia Democratic Sen. Mark Warner is also gathering input from his Senate colleagues on whether to issue a joint statement calling on Biden to withdraw from the race.

I have worked with the president and members of both parties to pass critical legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and the CHIPS and Science Act.
And I was proud that the President signed my bills, capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors and expanding mental health support for police officers and their families and investing more resources to address the fentanyl crisis on the southern border,” she explained.
