Election Results
On November 15, the Senate plenary approved Gálvez Ruiz’s leave request, allowing her to run as the opposition candidate for the presidency of Mexico.
According to the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP) of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Gálvez Ruiz was defeated by Claudia Sheinbaum, the candidate from Morena, PT, and PVEM, by a margin of 31.45 percent.
Currently, the Senate is in a legislative recess period that ends on August 31, marking the conclusion of the LXV Legislature.
During this period, the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union, composed of 19 federal deputies and 18 senators, is in session.
However, Gálvez Ruiz is not part of this body, meaning her official return to legislative activities will take place with the start of the next regular session.
The reinstatement of Xóchitl Gálvez in the Senate marks her return to legislative life after her unsuccessful bid for the presidency, which could influence the political dynamics in the Senate in the coming months.
