President Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted a historic decrease in the working poverty rate in Mexico, reaching the lowest level recorded since 2009, according to the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL).

The working poverty rate was 35.8 percent during the first quarter of 2024, a figure notably lower than the 37.7 percent registered in the same period of 2023.

During the current administration, working poverty has been significantly reduced to 37.3 percent.

In contrast, the six-year terms of Enrique Peña Nieto and Felipe Calderón Hinojosa registered higher rates, with 42.5 percent and 40.5 percent, respectively.

This improvement has allowed 3.3 million Mexicans to overcome working poverty between 2017 and 2023.
